That Coffee Won't Help, Bud -- Iphone Submission!

Just got back from Hongdae. We decided to grab some McDonalds and found this guy.

Also, this might be the first photo shot and emailed entirely from an iPhone here. (Editors note: Submission date: 12/6/09)

~Props on having an Iphone here, but don't you know, Korea invented Ipone?

Triple Blackout! -- Facebook Submission!

~Nice find. They're all facing the same direction too. From above, I think it might look something like this:

Daegu Shop Blackout -- Facebook Submittal!

Apparently this woman is always in front of this shop in Daegu no matter what time of day it is. Today, she was suffering from a blackout.

Blackout for One

2 weeks ago, myself and some friends checked out the COEX Intercontinental Hotel wine and food buffet. This guy shuffled in, sat down in a dark corner, ordered some very expensive drinks and promptly fell asleep for a whole hour. He was out of it. We even posed with him several times using flash. After waking up he stumbled out, probably... hopefully towards his room.

Another Fast Food Blackout

Here are some picts I took in Hongdae last year..It was in Burger King, and very late at night so lots of people were blackouting, even some non Koreans were...I caught this group of people. The guy just woke up as my friend took the pict.

Be careful with your blog, it has seeds for creating some kind of stupidly big controversy in Korea, since it

1. depicts Koreans in embarrassing way
2. is made by foreigner in Korea
3. has many picts of hongdae
4. shows westerners (=ESL in the mind of koreans)

Credit: Narmo

~Thanks for the tip. In a relatively unprecedented show of personal commentary: I've dealt with a few dissenters thus far (Western and Korean) but mostly just unbridled anger without objectively looking at the situation; namely, while this site may DEPICT Koreans blacked out, THEY'RE STILL THE ONES DOING IT IN PUBLIC . If someone expects me not to do something "because the culture is different" when its defies logic and reason, i'm not going to censor. Its not like i'm ruthlessly insulting ancient Korean traditions or ways of life here. If someone thinks I'm disrespectful for finding humor (and bringing that humor to others) in what seems to be an endemic of a COMPLETELY willpower-based form of social pathology, they can frankly go straight to hell.

In related news, the Korean population is certainly free to make their own site poking fun at foreigners. Doubt they'll get as many blackout pics though.

Sneaky Blackout

Photo taken on a recent night out in Jinhae. We managed to subtly capture this black out. (To the right of the picture. - Another case of too much Soju)

~An excellent tactic for the true photojournalist. "Whats the matter? I just wanted a picture of myself?"

Construction Site Blackout -- Bonus Real Surprise

This was taken a few summers ago in Ilsan. As a friend and mine were moving stuff from one place to the other, we noticed this man leisurely resting his feet in a construction site nearby. Afraid of waking him by getting to close, I was as quick as possible. The real surprise was revealed after I uploaded the photo onto my computer.

~Whatever do you mean?

Did anyone trip over him?

I saw this guy at 11:30 am Today (12-1-2009) Isn’t it a tad early in the day and the week?

Korean Halloween Costume Blackout

Halloween in Itaewon-- found this guy passed out in the subway terminal. Attempted to wake him up and tell him to go home, but he tried to pull me down and insisted this was the best place to sleep. Guess the foreigners have learned to party as hard as the Koreans do here...

Busan Variety Blackouts

Here's some for your collection. The first from a McDonald's in Busan at about 5 in the morning. The second is my dear friend who couldn't work the lift to go home and couldn't make it to the couch either. We found him like this at around 12 in the afternoon when we got up!

Variety Pack Blackouts

Gundae Alley: Drinking and there were a few girls hanging out in the small alley. My friend [in the picture] went hitting on them and ended up passing out shortly after he scared them away. So we took his phone and wallet, came back to check on him 20 minutes later and he was gone.

Itaewon Station: Random foreigners acting Korean

Corner Store: It's the fancy Family Mart/etc near exit 1 of Gundae station.

Kimbap Blackout. Gold.

"At about 3am my buddy and I went to get food and we saw this dude. He stood up, started walking towards the counter, paused for a moment like he had forgotten something, then just collapsed on the floor. 2 of his buddies had to carry him out while we got dirty looks for laughing our asses off."

~I wouldn't have believed you without this picture, certainly. Awesome submittal.

So Close To Drowning Blackout

Another McDonalds Blackout

"This was around 6PM at the McDonald's in Gangneung. I don't even think she had ordered food..."

~I love it when you guys include the times. It really makes the blackouts that much funnier. I have seen this rampant phenomenon of passing out (in usually 2-3 story buildings) in fast food restaurants in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. I think it's just an Asian thing.

Toilet Blackout...Ouch

"Took this photo in the Bathroom of a Hof in Jeju, quite early in the evening."

Credit: Tobias S

~Definitely had to pull out the smudge function on this one. Hopefully none of the bleeding hearts will get too upset now.
